ASID, Alaska Chapter As
one of 48 chapters within the national association,
The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Alaska
is made up of local professional and allied design practitioners
and industry partners. The association offers local
and national designers opportunities to enhance their
knowledge through continuing education, information
sharing and networking with other professionals within
the field.
The local ASID, Alaska Chapter provides continuing education opportunities throughout the year, including events co-sponsored with other local organizations. Members participate through volunteerism and involvement in community service and industry enhancement projects, committee and board leadership positions, and mentorship opportunities.
ASID members meet strict standards for education and
experience including national testing standards that
measure knowledge and ability. The local practitioner
membership is made up of 70% professional members who
have met all education, experience and national testing
requirements; 30% allied members who are working towards
the fulfillment of professional requirements. In addition,
the chapter offers membership categories for students
currently enrolled in design programs and industry partners
who support the design community through services, products
and education.
Interior Design
Interior design includes a scope of services performed by a professional design practitioner, qualified by means of education, experience and examination, to protect and enhance the life, safety and welfare of the public.
Interior design concerns itself with more than just the visual or ambient enhancement of an interior space. It seeks to optimize and harmonize the uses to which the interior environment will be put. Interior design is a multi-faceted profession in which creative and technical solutions are applied within a structure to achieve a built environment. These solutions are functional, enhance the quality of life and culture of the occupants, and are aesthetically attractive. (NCIDQ.org, 2007)
ASID Interior Designers are trained to deal
with more than the furnishings and finishes that go
into making a space look wonderful. They use analytical
problem-solving skills that focus on your needs and
aspirations. Designers listen, understand and ultimately
create a space that exceeds your expectations.
ASID Interior Designers will help you examine your options,
create a roadmap, manage the process or anything in
between - purchasing, ordering, supervising contractors
and overseeing budgets. ASID Interior Designers
are trained to see the big picture and to help you balance
your aspirations, functional needs and budget. |
